Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

FIRST HE FOUGHT FOR THE CROWN. NOW HE’S FIGHTING FOR THE FAMILY JEWELS!

austinpowers2Dr. Evil goes back to 1969 in a time machine to steal Austin Powers’s (Mike Myers) mojo, the power that makes him the sexiest man alive. This sequel may be lacking in the story department, but Myers is in smashing shape as the agent with a Shaguar, and as Dr. Evil, the somewhat confused madman. Best bit is Dr. Evil’s visit on The Jerry Springer Show (complete with the obligatory chair-swinging), but the cheap bathroom jokes dominate everything. Fat Bastard is a revolting character, but the psychotic Mini-Me (Verne Troyer) adds spice.

1999-U.S. 92 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Jay Roach. Screenplay: Mike Myers, Michael McCullers. Song: ”Beautiful Stranger” (performed by Madonna). Cast: Mike Myers (Austin Powers/Dr. Evil/Fat Bastard), Heather Graham (Felicity Shagwell), Rob Lowe (Number Two), Michael York, Elizabeth Hurley, Robert Wagner… Will Ferrell, Fred Willard. Cameos: Woody Harrelson, Tim Robbins, Burt Bacharach, Elvis Costello, Willie Nelson.

Trivia: Co-produced by Myers and Demi Moore. Followed by Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002).

Quote: “You’re semi-evil. You’re quasi-evil. You’re the margarine of evil. You’re the Diet Coke of evil. Just one calorie, not evil enough.” (Dr. Evil (Myers) to his son (Green))
