Wayne’s World

YOU’LL LAUGH. YOU’LL CRY. YOU’LL HURL.

When Illinois rock fans Wayne and Garth (Mike Myers, Dana Carver) sell the rights to their amateurish TV show to a ruthless producer (Rob Lowe), their lives change. It would take a decade after Blues Brothers (1980) for a second Saturday Night Live skit to be developed into a whole film, but Wayne’s World became a huge hit and the beginning of Myers’s life as a movie star. A threadbare story is built around a simple premise; it’s up to the two leads to carry the movie, because not much else will. Fitfully amusing, as in the ”Bohemian Rhapsody” tribute.

1992-U.S. 95 min. Color. Widescreen. Produced by Lorne Michaels. Directed by Penelope Spheeris. Screenplay: Mike Myers, Bonnie Turner, Terry Turner. Cast: Mike Myers (Wayne Campbell), Dana Carvey (Garth Algar), Rob Lowe (Benjamin Kane), Tia Carrere, Brian Doyle-Murray, Lara Flynn Boyle… Meat Loaf, Ed O’Neill, Alice Cooper. Cameos: Chris Farley, Robert Patrick.

Trivia: Followed by Wayne’s World 2 (1993).

Quote: “We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy!” (Myers and Carver meeting Cooper)
