House of Gucci

A LEGACY WORTH KILLING FOR.

In the 1970s, Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga) meets Maurizio Gucci (Ada, Driver) at a party and they hit it off; after moving to New York City, they become increasingly involved with the family business, but the relationship turns sour. The real-life story of how the Gucci family lost control of their fashion empire is fodder for a movie about murder, power and money. Never dull, but frustratingly uneven, with a goofy performance by an unrecognizable Jared Leto, a Gaga accent that lands somewhere between Italian and Russian and lots of eye candy in terms of costumes and locations. Colorful, but not dark or outlandish enough.

2021-U.S. 157 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Ridley Scott. Book: Sara Gay Forden. Cinematography: Dariusz Wolski. Costume Design: Janty Yates. Cast: Lady Gaga (Patrizia Reggiani), Adam Driver (Maurizio Gucci), Jared Leto (Paolo Gucci), Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek, Al Pacino… Jack Huston.

Trivia: Co-produced by Scott. Anne Hathaway, Margot Robbie and Natalie Portman were reportedly considered for the lead role; Martin Scorsese for directing duties.

Razzie: Worst Supporting Actor (Leto).
