LISTEN. CAREFULLY.
L.A. cop Joe Baylor (Jake Gyllenhaal) is working a night shift at the 911 call center when he’s drawn into a kidnapping situation. A remake of the excellent 2018 Danish thriller that offers more or less the same story, with a few tweaks near the end, including a police officer who accepts responsibility for crimes he commits, undoubtedly an idea influenced by current events. Well-crafted, even if the filmmakers fail to recreate the same kind of claustrophobic atmosphere as the original. Benefits from Gyllenhaal’s performance as the asthmatic cop who’s pretty much a human pressure cooker.
