The Call of the Wild

FIND COURAGE AND ANSWER THE CALL.

During the 1890s Klondike gold rush, a kidnapped dog called Buck is taken there to pull sleds, but forms a bond with a grieving man (Harrison Ford). Jack London’s oft-filmed story gets a fairly faithful adaptation, but this time virtually all the animals are CGI, especially Buck. Cleverly conceived to a degree that makes most of the action and rapport between Buck and the human cast effective enough, perhaps partly because of the director’s experience from animated movies. An engaging and cute adventure for the whole family with a solid Ford and a grossly overacting Dan Stevens as a villain.

2020-U.S. 100 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Chris Sanders. Novel: Jack London. Music: John Powell. Cast: Harrison Ford (John Thornton), Omar Sy (Perrault), Dan Stevens (Hal), Cara Gee, Karen Gillan, Bradley Whitford.

Trivia: Co-produced by James Mangold.
