All Foreigners Keep Their Curtains Closed

The novel was critically lauded for portraying life in a multicultural Oslo suburb, and this film adaptation captures that atmosphere, following unruly teenagers from different backgrounds. Focus lies on a young girl (Karen Øye) who’s dealing with many issues in her family, including her older brother’s departure for military service in Afghanistan; at the same time she’s falling in love with a boy. Unfortunately, the bland romance and a less than believable gay storyline mar the film.

2020-Norway. 83 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Ingvild Søderlind. Novel: Maria Navarro Skaranger. Cast: Karen Øye (Mariana), Serhat Yildirim (Ali2), Cengiz Al (Hector), Deniz Nourizadeh-Lillabadi, Jonatan Rodriguez, Yngvild Støen Grotmol.

Trivia: Original title: Alle utlendinger har lukka gardiner.
