WE DON’T GET A LOT OF THINGS TO REALLY CARE ABOUT.
When his pig is stolen one night, reclusive truffle forager Robin Feld (Nicolas Cage) goes to Portland to hunt down the thieves. On paper, it may sound like another B movie taking advantage of the famous Cage Rage, but that’s not what this is. Instead we get one of the star’s most subdued performances in many years as a supremely gifted chef who abandoned everything after a tragedy. Always on the verge of saying something profound, Michael Sarnoski addresses grief in his directing debut and shows how powerfully a meal can affect us, but it’s never the kick in the gut it should be.
