Spoor

In a mountainous part of Poland, Janina Duszejko’s (Agnieszka Mandat) two dogs disappear right before several murders occur; the local hunters find her concern for animals overbearing. A thriller that celebrates individualism and nature, but in controversial ways. Divided into chapters reflecting the seasons (informing us of which animals can be hunted), the film is visually dark and questions our right to use and abuse nature and animals. Janina turns into a symbol of that; Mandat is excellent in a demanding role. A little short on thrills, the film still has us wondering where it will end up.
