Without a question an odd idea for a documentary ā which is a strength. We are introduced to Craig Foster, diver and filmmaker, who tells us about how he forged a relationship with an octopus in a South African underwater kelp forest. Foster was stunned to learn just how intelligent this wild animal was, as it slowly began to accept and show an interest in his presence. We see how Foster connects that experience to his relationship with his son. That part of the film isnāt as engaging as the fact that many of its visuals are stunning and that we learn a lot about a specific place in nature over the course of a year, including how the octopus behaves ā and defends itself against sharks.
