Cherry (Tom Holland) falls head over heels in love with Emily (Ciara Bravo), but when she leaves to study in Montreal he joins the Army and goes to Iraq. The Russo brothers’ first film as directors after their Marvel days is an ambitious choice, an adaptation of a novel depicting the effects of the Iraq War and the opioid crisis on a young man, based on actual experiences. However, the journey to addiction and bank robberies becomes an epic wallowing in misery, attractively shot but mediocre on most levels.
