HELL COMES HOME.
A mysterious preacher (Clint Eastwood) arrives in time to help a community of prospectors in California fight an aggressive mining baron (Richard Dysart). Eastwoodās only Western in the 1980s was a hit, taking skillful advantage of genre conventions and borrowing heavily from films like Shane (1953) and High Plains Drifter (1973). Eastwood is solid as the preacher who might actually be a ghost; the pacing is uneven, but wintry locations help and thereās tension near the end as our hero faces an old enemy. Former Bond villain Richard Kiel adds color and heart in a supporting role.
