SUGAR AND SPICE AND ALL THINGS NICE. THAT’S NOT WHAT ALL LITTLE GIRLS ARE MADE OF.
Three 14-year-old girls (Tuva Jagell, Louise Nyvall, Wilma Holmén) turn into boys with a little help from a mysterious plant. In the hands of the director behind the queer-themed With Every Heartbeat (2011), an award-winning novel became a good movie for a young audience starting to ponder sexual issues. It’s a fantasy playing with gender and the idea of young love, taking teenage confusion to new heights. Kim’s infatuation with a boy who’s bad news is hardly profound, but using the effects of the plant to illustrate real-life issues is a clever idea.
