FEAR SPREADS LIKE THE PLAGUE.
England, 1665; during the Great Plague, Grace (Charlotte Kirk) (whose husband recently hanged himself) is accused of witchcraft. Thereās a certain ambition in this horror movie to address the widespread killing of women denounced as witches, but the treatment feels anything but serious. The filmmakers focus on ineffective horror shocks (involving the devil and Graceās late husband) and the period details are off. Kirkās makeup remains perfect no matter how much sheās tortured.
