Hoping to boost Democrats’ electoral chances in rural America, veteran campaign consultant Gary Zimmer (Steve Carell) throws himself into a small-town mayoral election in Wisconsin. It’s obvious that Jon Stewart dreams of a political landscape that isn’t so blindly polarized. Many critics felt this comedy was outdated, but its biggest problem is that it remains obvious throughout, unable to say or do anything unexpected. Carell, Rose Byrne and Chris Cooper do their best, the latter as a Capra-esque candidate.
