Let Them All Talk

WRITE YOUR WRONGS.

Famous author Alice Hughes (Meryl Streep) is heading to Britain to receive an award; she’s traveling on the Queen Mary 2 and has brought friends (Candice Bergen, Dianne Wiest) and her nephew (Lucas Hedges). A movie partly improvised and shot on that actual ocean liner, using its natural lights; not all of Steven Soderbergh’s films are hits, but one has to admire his lust for experimenting. The story, depicting a friendship that is far from what it used to be, and a writer’s swan song, meanders along on the ship as we’re also treated to the nephew’s attempts to woo a reluctant literary agent. Appealing enough, with a great cast.

2020-U.S. VOD. 113 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed, photographed and edited by Steven Soderbergh. Screenplay: Deborah Eisenberg. Cast: Meryl Streep (Alice Hughes), Candice Bergen (Roberta), Dianne Wiest (Susan), Gemma Chan, Lucas Hedges, John Douglas Thompson.
