David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet

HE INTRODUCED US TO THE WORLD. NOW HE TELLS US HIS GREATEST STORY.

In his 90s now, legendary natural historian and TV icon Sir David Attenborough looks back on a remarkable life in this documentary and shares his insight – the world keeps changing for the worse and we need to do something about it. Bookended by a visit to Pripyat and what it looks like now 34 years after the manmade Chernobyl disaster, the film benefits from Attenborough’s calm, likable and wise presence, but there is a sadness to his testimony that sets the movie apart from the many documentary series he’s worked on (often together with the crew behind this film). We see many alarming examples of how our planet is suffering due to the harm human beings cause. Attenborough still offers hope – and, obviously, stunning footage of our world.

2020-Britain. 83 min. Color. Produced by Jonnie Hughes. Directed by Alastair Fothergill, Jonnie Hughes, Keith Scholey.

Last word: “Humanity is at a crossroads and the natural world is under serious threat – the consequences could be apocalyptic. I’ve had an extraordinary, fortunate life making natural history films for 60 years – and during that time, there have been greater changes in the relationship between man and the natural world than in the last thousand years. I couldn’t say to no to this [film].” (Attenborough, NME)
