When Charlie Kaufman decided to adapt Iain Reidās novel, no one expected a faithful rendering, but perhaps something along the lines of Adaptation. (2002) ā brazenly original and personal, where sometimes you can spot references to the source novel. This one follows a young couple driving in a blizzard; theyāre going to visit Jakeās parents, but actually the whole movie is one long, mysterious journey into the past (and what could have been). Sad and confounding, tedious at times, the film is packed with bizarre, darkly humorous and creepy moments. Great cast.
