THE ONLY THING MORE DANGEROUS THAN THE FRONT LINES WAS THE FIGHT TO GET THERE.

In 1942, a convoy of Allied ships are trying to get through the North Atlantic without being sunk by a wolfpack of German U-boats. Tom Hanks returns to World War II, committed as always to getting historical facts right… perhaps a little too much, because there’s a lot of technical lingo to muddle through. Still, the filmmakers use the short running time to great effect, building a lot of tension as the wolfpack (who’s given a terrifically eerie, howling music theme) and Hanks’s destroyer keep hunting each other. He’s solid, but we don’t learn much about his character.
