The Emoji Movie

AN ADVENTURE BEYOND WORDS.

Gene lives in the city of Textopolis, inside a smartphone that belongs to a human teenager; heā€™s a ā€mehā€ emoji, but can actually show multiple expressions, which throws him into an adventure. Commercially speaking, this was a hit, but it was also a savagely maligned film that earned very unfavorable comparisons with The Lego Movie (2014). Very lazy and uninspired, with jokes that make you want to throw away your smartphone in disgust.

2017-U.S. Animated. 86 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Tony Leondis. Screenplay: Tony Leondis, Eric Siegel, Mike White. Voices of T.J. Miller (Gene Meh), James Corden (Hi-5), Anna Faris (Jailbreak), Maya Rudolph, Steven Wright, Jennifer Coolidgeā€¦ Patrick Stewart, Christina Aguilera, Sofia Vergara, Sean Hayes, Rachael Ray.

Razzies: Worst Picture, Director, Screenplay, Screen Combo (any two obnoxious emojis).
