Truth

WHEN TRUTH BECOMES YOUR DOWNFALL.

Shortly before the 2004 presidential election, 60 Minutes producer Mary Mapes (Cate Blanchett) and her team come across an explosive story… but the backlash is devastating. James Vanderbilt’s directing debut addresses one of the most hotly debated, complicated scandals in the world of politics and media, but doesn’t know how to make it interesting. What we get is a conventional, somewhat dishonest speak-truth-to-power tale. Frustrating, but Blanchett is fine in the lead and Robert Redford is obviously the right person to play the venerable Rather.

2015-U.S. 125 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by James Vanderbilt. Book: Mary Mapes (”Truth and Duty”). Music: Brian Tyler. Cast: Cate Blanchett (Mary Mapes), Robert Redford (Dan Rather), Topher Grace (Mike Smith), Dennis Quaid, Elisabeth Moss, Bruce Greenwood… Stacy Keach, Dermot Mulroney.

Trivia: Co-produced by Vanderbilt and Brett Ratner.
