Andréa’s (Catherine Deneuve) birthday celebrations are interrupted by the arrival of Claire (Emmanuelle Bercot), the unpredictable oldest daughter. On one level, you have to admire Bercot’s no-holds-barred performance as a mentally ill woman who refuses to understand her condition. On another level, her intolerable character is part of a family that considers itself to be free-spirited but actually needs extensive psychological help. The film’s sense of humor and attempts at charm hit a brick wall.
