Falling Down

THE ADVENTURES OF AN ORDINARY MAN AT WAR WITH THE EVERYDAY WORLD.

On a very hot day in Los Angeles, William Foster (Michael Douglas) abandons his car in the middle of a traffic jam and tries to make his way to his estranged wife; soon, a detective (Robert Duvall) finds reason to pursue him. Ironically, this controversial movie was made during the 1992 L.A. riots, perhaps aiding the filmmakers in creating a vibrant atmosphere. With his 1960s-style crew cut, glasses, shirt and tie, Douglasā€™s character became a symbol of the everyday man being fed up. Slick, but not enough to make us forget that Fosterā€™s actions amount to little more than mere harassment of various people.

1993-U.S. 115 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Joel Schumacher. Screenplay: Ebbe Roe Smith. Cinematography: Andrzej Bartkowiak. Cast: Michael Douglas (William Foster), Robert Duvall (Martin Prendergast), Barbara Hershey (Beth Trevino), Frederic Forrest, Tuesday Weld, Rachel Ticotin.
