Daddy’s Home Two

MORE DADDIES. MORE MAYHEM.

What do you do with a sequel when you want to shake up the concept a little bit? You do what Meet the Fockers (2004) did and hire colorful stars to play newly invented relatives. Since Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg’s characters are friends now, the pot is stirred by having their dads visit them over Christmas. They are naturally extreme opposites; Mel Gibson and John Lithgow are perfect for the parts and give the film a boost, which is sorely needed when the jokes and slapstick are this contrived.

2017-U.S. 100 min. Color. Directed by Sean Anders. Cast: Will Ferrell (Brad Whitaker), Mark Wahlberg (Dusty Mayron), Mel Gibson (Kurt Mayron), John Lithgow (Don Whitaker), Linda Cardellini, John Cena. Cameos: Liam Neeson, Chesley Sullenberger.

Trivia: Co-produced by Ferrell and Adam McKay; co-executive-produced by Wahlberg. Chevy Chase and Robert De Niro were allegedly considered as the grandfathers.

Razzie: Worst Supporting Actor (Gibson).
