A Cure for Wellness

Lockhart (Dane DeHaan) is sent to a wellness center in the Alps to retrieve the CEO of a Wall Street firm, but shortly after arriving he’s involved in an accident… The writer and the director were inspired by a classic Thomas Mann novel and employed a lovecraftian touch in their tale of mysterious events in the Alps, fueled by the special qualities of its air and water. Nothing new here though; the film relies heavily on clichés and isn’t scary enough. Intense climax, but on the whole the story is unreasonably slow and protracted.

2017-U.S.-Germany-Luxembourg. 146 min. Color. Directed by Gore Verbinski. Screenplay: Justin Haythe. Music: Benjamin Wallfisch. Cast: Dane DeHaan (Lockhart), Jason Isaacs (Heinrich Volmer), Mia Goth (Hannah), Harry Groener, Celia Imrie, Adrian Schiller… Tomas Norström, Magnus Krepper.
