Molly’s Game

Former professional skier Molly Bloom (Jessica Chastain) moves to Los Angeles where she becomes involved with underground poker games attended by the rich and famous… As expected, Aaron Sorkin’s directing debut (based on a true story) comes with two major assets: his rapid-fire dialogue that conveys tons of information in a lighthearted way, and Chastain’s confident performance. The film consists largely of flashbacks that show Molly’s path to those games; in the present day, she’s preparing her defense in court. Poker is always dull to watch, but the film is overall enjoyable.
