The Informer

CHOOSE YOUR ENEMIES WISELY.

After infiltrating the Polish mob in New York while working for corrupt FBI handlers, Pete Koslow (Joel Kinnaman) finds himself back in the prison where he once did time. This Americanized adaptation of a Swedish crime thriller suffers from a sluggish pace in the beginning and near the end, with a few bloody shootouts and a prison hostage crisis as sole moments of tension. Fairly ludicrous, with tepid performances by Rosamund Pike and Clive Owen; Kinnaman is better as a tough type of character we’ve seen him do before.

2019-Britain. 113 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Andrea Di Stefano. Novel: Anders Roslund, Börge Hellström (”Three Seconds”). Cast: Joel Kinnaman (Pete Koslow), Rosamund Pike (Wilcox), Clive Owen (Montgomery), Common, Ana de Armas, Sam Spruell.

Trivia: Josh Brolin and Maggie Gyllenhaal were allegedly considered for the leads.
