Inna de Yard: The Soul of Jamaica

The director, whoā€™s made both documentaries and fiction in the past, brings an unexpected cinematic quality to this film. We go on a journey to Jamaica where we are treated to its beauty and charms, including meetings with some of the music legends who made sure reggae was internationally noticed decades ago. Life hasnā€™t always been easy for people like Ken Boothe, Kiddus I and Cedric Myton but theyā€™re still standing, still performing. We get to see the connection between Jamaica and the social message inherent in the music; younger generations are learning, bringing new vitality to reggae. An enjoyable trip, similar to The Buena Vista Social Club (1999).

2019-France. 99 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed byĀ Peter Webber. Cinematography: Bernard Benant.
