MORE SHAFT THAN YOU CAN HANDLE.

When a childhood friend of JJ’s (Jessie Usher) dies, it looks like he might actually have been murdered; reluctantly, JJ turns to his estranged father, John Shaft (Samuel L. Jackson). 19 years after the last Shaft movie came this sequel/reboot that brings us both previous Shafts but also the latest generation – who’s anything like his dad and granddad. The filmmakers emphasize how out of touch Jackson’s Shaft has become; the clash between him and his woke son has its amusing moments. Weak story, but gets a slight boost from Richard Roundtree’s appearance.
