The Devil’s Own

ONE MAN TRAPPED BY DESTINY, AND ANOTHER BOUND BY DUTY. THEY’RE ABOUT TO DISCOVER WHAT THEY’RE WILLING TO FIGHT, AND TO DIE FOR.

New York City cop Tom O’Meara (Harrison Ford) and his family take in an Irish guest worker (Brad Pitt), not realizing that he is in fact an IRA terrorist on a mission… It was a troubled production and in the end no one seemed quite happy with the final result, but this thriller is still perfectly watchable. It’s a clash between two ”heroes”, in a way, and the stars do their best to create as complex portraits as possible. The conflict in Northern Ireland is too simplified, and Margaret Colin’s character is just another Ford wife, but the film has a fine music score and delivers plenty of engaging action.

1997-U.S. 110 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Alan J. Pakula. Music: James Horner. Cast: Harrison Ford (Tom O’Meara), Brad Pitt (Rory Devaney/Francis McGuire), Margaret Colin (Sheila O’Meara), Ruben Blades, Treat Williams, George Hearn… Mitchell Ryan, Julia Stiles.
