FRIENDS TO THE END.
Young Andy (Gabriel Bateman), who’s lonely in a new city, receives a gift from his mom (Aubrey Plaza) – a hi-tech doll who wants to be his best friend. The 1988 slasher-comedy classic gets a remake, this time without Don Mancini as collaborator; he was unhappy about the project, but the final results are in his spirit. Lots of blood and a few giggles, but never scary. More interesting as a satirical comment on how we as a society are willing to put our complete trust in technology. Mark Hamill doesn’t add much apart from a Brad Dourif imitation.
2019-U.S. 90 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Lars Klevberg. Cast: Aubrey Plaza (Karen Barclay), Gabriel Bateman (Andy Barclay), Brian Tyree Henry (Mike Norris), David Lewis, Carlease Burke, Tim Matheson. Voice of Mark Hamill.
