Moon Over Miami

POOR GIRL’S PARADISE! TWO SISTERS STORM THE MIAMI MILLIONAIRE COLONY!

Two sisters (Betty Grable, Carole Landis) working as carhops in Texas go to Miami together with their aunt (Charlotte Greenwood) to find a millionaire. A typically colorful Fox musical from this period that relies on a very silly story. Without the musical numbers they would have been in trouble, but the singing and dancing have charming moments and the sets make us almost believe we are in Miami (the speedboat scene was shot in Florida though). The complications between the sisters and the men they fall for are an OK diversion, but Jack Haley is more fun as a suspicious bartender.

1941-U.S. 91 min. Color. Directed by Walter Lang. Cast: Don Ameche (Phil O’Neil), Betty Grable (Kathryn Latimer), Robert Cummings (Jeffrey Boulton), Carole Landis (Barbara Latimer), Charlotte Greenwood, Jack Haley.

Trivia: Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews and John Payne were allegedly considered for roles. Previously filmed as Three Blind Mice (1938); remade as Three Little Girls in Blue (1946).
