Life of the Party

When her husband announces that he wants a divorce, Deanna Miles (Melissa McCarthy) decides to go back to college, becoming her daughter’s (Molly Gordon) classmate…  Another collaboration between McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone that never takes off. This one wants to be a nice, positive comedy about a middle-aged woman finding herself. Lots of predictable jokes about age differences. Enthusiastically performed by McCarthy, but rarely funny and there’s no real conflict; the film often feels aimless.

2018-U.S. 105 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Ben Falcone. Screenplay: Melissa McCarthy, Ben Falcone. Cast: Melissa McCarthy (Deanna Miles), Molly Gordon (Maddie Miles), Maya Rudolph (Christine Davenport), Matt Walsh, Julie Bowen, Gillian Jacobs… Jacki Weaver, Christina Aguilera.

Trivia: Falcone and McCarthy also co-produced.
