The Brink

FIRST THE WHITE HOUSE. THEN THE WORLD.

One of two documentary portraits of former Trump advisor Steve Bannon made about the same time (the other one being Errol Morris’s American Dharma), this one following him as he embarks on his next projects – getting Republicans elected during the 2018 U.S. midterms and trying to build a far-right coalition among European parties. The film shows us his charisma and strategic skill, which makes him a dangerous person, but also his many failures (the embarrassing departure from the White House, betting on an awful candidate like Roy Moore, losing the midterms) and inability to own the naked racism he inspires. Not much of a revelation, but one is intrigued/repulsed.

2019-U.S. 91 min. Color. Directed and photographed by Alison Klayman.
