Pianist Al Roberts (Tom Neal) is headed to California where his girlfriend is trying to launch a career, but an unexpected death changes the journeyā¦ One of the most famous films that Edgar G. Ulmer made has become perhaps the most classic example of āpoverty rowā film noir. Itās a thriller featuring a dumb guy and a dangerous dame who meet by chance and reluctantly become partners in crime. The lead performances are not exactly subtle, especially Ann Savageās, but theyāre not dull. The script is often unbelievable, but this is nonetheless a tight little film, warts and all.
