Triple Frontier

Santiago ”Pope” Garcia (Oscar Isaac) gathers a team of friends, all retired Special Forces soldiers, for a mission to Colombia where they intend to steal millions of dollars from a drug lord. A change of pace for J.C. Chandor, who’s not exactly famous for his action-thrillers – but he has plenty of help from co-writer Mark Boal who’s even won an Oscar for writing about soldiers. Together they’ve crafted an unremarkable story that gets a shot in the arm from Chandor’s confident direction and likable performances; the Colombian jungle heist and subsequent escape through the Andes offer satisfying thrills.

2019-U.S. 125 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by J.C. Chandor. Screenplay: Mark Boal, J.C. Chandor. Cast: Ben Affleck (Tom ”Redfly” Davis), Oscar Isaac (Santiago ”Pope” Garcia), Charlie Hunnam (William ”Ironhead” Miller), Garrett Hedlund, Pedro Pascal, Adria Arjona.

Trivia: Co-executive produced by Kathryn Bigelow, who at one point was going to direct. Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum were reportedly considered for roles.
