Britt-Marie Was Here

IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO START LIVING.

When 63-year-old Britt-Marie (Pernilla August) learns that her husband (Peter Haber) has been cheating on her, she moves to a small town and starts coaching a team of 10-year-old soccer players. A comedy-drama in the same vein as A Man Called Ove (2015), which was also written by Fredrik Backman. It’s another tale of a middle-aged person who’s in desperate need of a make-over, which in this case comes in the shape of a bunch of kids. A predictable formula without the shade of darkness that made A Man Called Ove memorable, but still pleasant enough, largely thanks to August and the kids.

2019-Sweden. 98 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Tuva Novotny. Screenplay: Tuva Novotny, Anders Frithiof August, Øystein Karlsen. Novel: Fredrik Backman. Cast: Pernilla August (Britt-Marie), Peter Haber (Kent), Anders Mossling (Sven), Malin Levanon, Vera Vitali, Olle Sarri.

Trivia: Original title: Britt-Marie var här.

    63 is considered middle-aged now?
