Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

WHO WILL CHANGE THE FUTURE?

When Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) escapes spectacularly from his New York prison, both Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and a young Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) are contacted by the British Ministry of Magic who need their help. Itā€™s only the second movie in this franchise and itā€™s already marred by convoluted subplots, a slow pace and two leads who are far less engaging than Harry, Hermione and Ron ever were. Nostalgically handsome views of Paris in 3D, combined with an effective villain in Deppā€™s guise and a likable Law, provides some compensation ā€“ as well as the promise of more exciting confrontations to come.

2018-U.S.-Britain. 134 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ David Yates. Screenplay: J.K. Rowling. Cast: Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander), Katherine Waterston (Porpentina ā€Tinaā€ Goldstein), Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski), Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Alison Sudolā€¦ Ezra Miller, ZoĆ« Kravitz.

Trivia: Followed by Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022).
