My Dinner with Hervé

HIS REAL LIFE WAS THE BIGGEST FANTASY OF ALL.

In 1993, reporter and recovering alcoholic Danny Tate (Jamie Dornan) reluctantly agrees to interview Hervé Villechaize (Peter Dinklage), the hard-partying former star of TV hit Fantasy Island. Sacha Gervasi worked several years on getting this story filmed, based on an interview he had made with Villechaize shortly before the actor killed himself; he was suffering both mentally and physically from his dwarfism and being typecast. You can tell this is also a labor of love for Dinklage who’s brilliant in the lead as the cocky, knife-wielding, womanizing and tragic star. Dornan is terrific as the reporter who slowly discovers an unexpected bond with the little man.

2018-U.S. Made for TV. 110 min. Color. Written and directed by Sacha Gervasi. Cast: Peter Dinklage (Hervé Villechaize), Jamie Dornan (Danny Tate), Andy Garcia (Ricardo Montalban), Mireille Enos, Oona Chaplin, David Strathairn.
