A MAN DIED FOR A CRIME HE DIDN’T COMMIT… AND THE MURDERER IS STILL AMONG THEM.

In the late 1950s, a stranger (Luke Treadaway) visits the Argyll family and tells them that their son who was convicted of murdering his mother and later died in prison must have been innocent. The third BBC Agatha Christie adaptation from writer Sarah Phelps is just as visually attractive as the others, but it takes a while for us to be genuinely intrigued by the Argyll’s and the identity of the killer. Tension does rise in the last hour, however; the ending is more complicated than in the novel, but certainly effective enough.

When one of the original cast members, Ed Westwick, was accused of sexual assault, his role had to be recast and the project was delayed by months. Previously filmed as a feature, Ordeal by Innocence (1984).
