Book Club

THE NEXT CHAPTER IS ALWAYS THE BEST.

Four friends (Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen) have had a book club for the past 30 years, but the latest literary choice, ”Fifty Shades of Grey”, turns their lives upside down. A romantic comedy for mature audiences in the vein of Nancy Meyers, complete with fabulous performances by four stars. They are ably supported by a bunch of attractive guys; star power is exactly what this film needs, considering how few genuine laughs there are and the predictability of the script. Still, a pleasant enough diversion. Friendly question: Are all these women drunks, or why the copious amounts of alcohol?

2018-U.S. 104 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Bill Holderman. Cast: Diane Keaton (Diane), Jane Fonda (Vivian), Candice Bergen (Sharon), Mary Steenburgen (Carol), Andy Garcia, Don Johnson…Craig T. Nelson, Alicia Silverstone, Ed Begley, Jr., Richard Dreyfuss, Wallace Shawn.
