St. Elmo’s Fire

YOU CAN ALWAYS COUNT ON YOUR FRIENDS. DON’T EVER LET THE FIRE GO OUT.Ā

Joel Schumacherā€™s breakthrough as director is a now-classic Brat Pack movie (along with the same yearā€™s The Breakfast Club) about a group of friends who are all trying to get used to life as adults after graduating from Georgetown. In their pursuit of meaning, stability and love there are inevitable roadblocks. A well chosen cast as an engaging bunch of people who handle each conflict with the expected drama. Hardly subtle stuff but bittersweet and worth a look, not least because of the music, including David Fosterā€™s love theme and a few of the songs. That title tune is a knockout.Ā
