Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

Ten years after Mamma Mia! we’re getting this franchise’s answer to The Godfather, Part II (1974) – the story picks up some time after the first movie, but we also meet Meryl Streep’s character when she was young, headed to that Greek island and met three charming young men during her journey. A thin story for sure, but a fresh bunch of old ABBA hits along with a positively joyous spirit and a cast that put a smile on our lips make you forget about that. Cher makes a true star appearance near the end as Donna’s glamorous mother and treats us to a great rendition of ”Fernando”, with fireworks and all.

2018-U.S.-Britain. 114 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Ol Parker. Songs: Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus. Cast: Amanda Seyfried (Sophie Sheridan), Lily James (young Donna Sheridan), Meryl Streep (Donna Sheridan), Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Pierce Brosnan… Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Cher, Dominic Cooper, Andy Garcia, Celia Imrie.

Trivia: Co-executive produced by Tom Hanks, Andersson and Ulvaeus (the latter two once again have cameos).
