A POST-WAR COMEDY WITH CHUTZPAH.
In 1946, David Bermann (Moritz Bleibtreu), one of the surviving Jews in Frankfurt, sets up a shady business venture together with a group of other Jews, while also being interrogated by the American military who suspect that he might have been a collaborator during the war. There’s plenty of truth in this story about Jews trying to find new lives in a country that just murdered millions of them, but this drama-comedy also wants us to know that perhaps not all of it should be believed. A little too mild in its approach, complete with a romance near the end that is anything but convincing, but still interesting throughout.
