Pacific Rim: Uprising

Ten years after the events of the first movie, a new generation of Jaeger pilots are facing the Kaiju once again, as well as a threat that comes from within… A 3D sequel that lacks the freshness of the original, which doesn’t come as a huge surprise  – it was hard to see in the first place where a follow-up would go that felt meaningful. More Michael Bay than Guillermo del Toro, with spectacular battles between monsters and machines. Plenty of Chinese influences, a likable cast, and there’s a weird twist that promises more to come… but all in all, hard to care much.

2018-U.S. 111 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Steven S. DeKnight. Cast: John Boyega (Jake Pentecost), Scott Eastwood (Nate Lambert), Cailee Spaeny (Amara Namani), Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman.

Trivia: Co-produced by Boyega and Guillermo del Toro.
