WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

In 1959, an African-American family moves into a white neighborhood at the same time as two men break into another family’s home, a crime that ends in a death. When the Coen brothers came up with the idea for this movie, they were inspired by a real-life story. A huge problem is that we never get the feeling that the two plot lines support each other in a relevant way; the 1950s satire fails to satisfy. It’s also hard to believe in the motivations behind Matt Damon and Julianne Moore’s actions, in spite of good acting and black humor.

2017-U.S. 105 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by George Clooney. Screenplay: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, George Clooney, Grant Heslov. Cast: Matt Damon (Gardner Lodge), Julianne Moore (Rose/Margaret), Oscar Isaac (Bud Cooper), Noah Jupe, Glenn Fleshler, Megan Ferguson.

Trivia: Co-produced by Clooney. Woody Harrelson was originally considered for a role.
