Churchill

NO LIES. JUST LEADERSHIP.Ā

In 1944, as the Allied leaders are preparing to launch Operation Overlord, Winston Churchill (Brian Cox) is haunted by the memories of the bloody 1915 Gallipoli campaign. The first of two Churchill biographies to be released within six months (the other one being Darkest Hour) is a major disappointment. Cox is fine as the aging Prime Minister who feels sidelined and irrelevant as the war faces its most decisive moment, but he spends most of the movie either raging or sulking like a child. It gets repetitive, and the filmā€™s treatment of historical facts is questionable.

2017-Britain. 105 min. Color. Directed byĀ Jonathan Teplitzky. Cast: Brian Cox (Winston Churchill), Miranda Richardson (Clementine Churchill), John Slattery (Dwight Eisenhower), James Purefoy, Julian Wadham, Danny Webb.
