Four years after the first miniseries, Sydney Detective Robin Griffin (Elisabeth Moss) is investigating the death of an Asian girl whoās floated ashore at Bondi Beach. Jane Campionās follow-up to the highly acclaimed but somewhat overrated Top of the Lake (2013) didnāt go down as well among critics, which certainly canāt be blamed on the cast. Moss is a tower of strength and brilliantly aided by Gwendoline Christie (as a pregnant Constable) and Nicole Kidman (as the woman who raised Mossās now teenage daughter) who turn in funny and emotional performances. The story has its moments, but suffers from several comically overblown characters.
