See No Evil, Hear No Evil

MURDER! THE BLIND GUY COULDN’T SEE IT. THE DEAF GUY COULDN’T HEAR IT. NOW THEY’RE BOTH WANTED FOR IT.Ā

After some initial confusion, a blind man (Richard Pryor) and a deaf man (Gene Wilder) become good friends, but soon find themselves on the lam after being accused of murder. The two stars reunited with their Silver Streak (1976) director for a new comedy that falls far short of expectations. Audiences still came running, because the setup is thankful ā€“ watching Wilder and Pryor try to handle their afflictions while dodging killers is an amusing idea on paper. They do their best, but weā€™re not getting any real laughs or thrills out of this one.

1989-U.S. 103 min. Color. Directed byĀ Arthur Hiller. Cast: Richard Pryor (Wally Karew), Gene Wilder (Dave Lyons), Joan Severance (Eve), Kevin Spacey, Kirsten Childs, Alan North.
