Blown Away

THE FUSE HAS BEEN LIT…

After escaping from a prison in Northern Ireland, notorious terrorist Ryan Gaerity (Tommy Lee Jones) makes his way to Boston where he targets Jimmy Dove (Jeff Bridges), a veteran on the bomb squad. Bridges hadnā€™t really made any action movies before, but heā€™s solid here as the cop with a secret past. His cat-and-mouse game with Jones, whoā€™s planting bombs all over the city, is fun to watch for a while, but the story is weak and the filmmakers are clearly trying to compensate by blowing action scenes out of proportion. Jones is off the rails, but the Boston locations are nice.

1994-U.S. 121 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Stephen Hopkins. Cast: Jeff Bridges (Jimmy Dove), Tommy Lee Jones (Ryan Gaerity), Lloyd Bridges (Max Oā€™Bannon), Forest Whitaker, Suzy Amis, John Finn.

Trivia: Stephen Rea was allegedly considered for a part.Ā Jay Roach worked on the story.
