Rings

SEVEN DAYS.

When Julia (Matilda Lutz) no longer hears from her boyfriend (Alex Roe) who went off to college, she tries to find out whatā€™s going on and learns of a mysterious videotapeā€¦ This second sequel to The Ring (2002) was belated to say the least and hardly worth the wait. Starts out promisingly on an airplane but fails to deliver any shocks, then introduces an all-too familiar (land-based) story that continues to deny us tension, and wraps things up unsatisfyingly. Except for the very end that takes chilling advantage of our social-media dominated times.

2017-U.S. 102 min. Color. Directed byĀ F. Javier GutiĆ©rrez. Cast: Matilda Lutz (Julia), Alex Roe (Holt), Johnny Galecki (Gabriel), Vincent Dā€™Onofrio, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan.

Trivia: Co-executive produced by Guillermo del Toro.
